AudioRoute

Postby admin » Thu Mar 19, 2009 6:37 pm

After several years of tests and many questions in the development forum, we've finally did it: a tool to route the audio to the earpiece speaker is available, and we've released it as freeware.

Image

This is a freeware tool that can be used to route the audio from the earpiece speaker to the backspeaker and vice versa.
A good addon for VoIP utilities.

Compatibility
Windows Mobile pocket pc or smartphone.

Usage
Install the CAB and use the titlebar icon to open the user interface.
Image

The first icon routes the audio to the earpiece speaker.
The second blue icon, can be used to route the audio to the backspeaker.
The orange icon, routes the audio to the speakerphone, while in a phone call.
You can also use the bottom slider to move the taskbar icon, or the about button to show this page.
The top-right square hides the user interface.

Command line
This tool can be executed by command line with parameters.
You can execute /program files/teksoft/audioRoute/audioRoute.exe with the following:
-earpiece , routes the audio to the earpiece
-backspeaker , routes the audio to the backspeaker
-speakerphone , while in a phone call, activates the speakerphone
-switch , toggles between earpiece and backspeaker
Code: Select all
 audioroute.exe -earpiece
 audioroute.exe -backspeaker
 etc.

Download
The CAB file is available in the freeware section of www.teksoftco.com, direct link here.

you need the earphones, because they work like an antenna for the built in radio.

it's standard functionality on most of the mobile phones.

I know, there would have been some better alternatives...

I have a Palm Treo 700Wx, running Windows Mobile 5.0. I tried this program in all of its versions and it will not work. Can anyone explain why it doesn't work on the Palm Treo? I ran Nimbuzz and Skype. I get the icon in the top of the screen and I can pull down the menu and get the globes. When I click on them they change the color of the icon from blue to orange and back, but the sound continues to come from the back speaker. I have no clue as to what to do from here. Help me out if you can. Thanks!!!

PS... When I downloaded the .CAB file and installed it, I did get a message that said that the application was for an earlier version of Windows and may not display properly, but it did and ran when I started it up. It just doesn't work.

Microphone disabled when earpiece on

Postby ejlmd » Wed Mar 25, 2009 3:33 am

Beatiful little application. Unfortunately, on my HTC Vogue (latest Sprint/HTC stock rom with Windows mobile 6.1), when the sound is routed through the earpiece the microphone is completely disabled.
When I tried the latest version of Fring, the same thing happens with their audiorouting capability, so maybe there's something that needs to be separately addressed for this phone?

Thank you in advance for any assistance with this issue.

Yes, it requires a change:

- to only route the speakers but not the microphone.

This change was added to audioroute 1.2.010 but then changed back in 1.2.020 since this doesn't seem to work on most devices.

Hi,
thanks for the app. The commandline version works OK on my smartphone HTC S730, despite the fact that is not installable on smartphone. I had to change OS version attributes in the cab to make the installation work.

Postby tyler51773 » Sat Mar 28, 2009 7:45 pm

I am using an HTC Kaiser, originally an AT&T Tilt phone. I love the program it has made the internal voip system of the phone usable. Although I think it doesn't do nat-traversal :(, but other apps do so no issue. My main issue with audio route is that the speakerphone boost doesn't work, the icons on the dialer and on the status bar light up but the boost doesn't happen if a fix comes along I will be eager to try it since I'm using the latest voipcanvas so I'm hopeful the echo cancelation works well enough to use the speakerphone. Thanks for such a great work around..

The version 1.2.020 cannot install on the Smartphone platform. Seems like the installer is missing the _setup.xml file. I wonder if it will work on a HTC Vox then?

I have a slight hope that your tool may reenable the callrecording which was possible on the Tornado with Vito AudioNotes. You are wrapping the AudioRIL and are able to route the received audio signals. This part is missing for (almost) all WM6 devices there.

BTW: It is interesting to note that the Tornado keeps its avilability to record phone calls also with cooked WM6 ROMs :-)

P.S.: just noticed that someone was succesfull on the S730 - will try to tweak it until then.

While we get a new cab that works on smartphones, could you post brief instructions on how to modify the current cab?

Others would need this, see tobbie's post above.

Just to report the result of my efforts:

1.) it works as announced on the S710 as well :-)

2.) unfortunately also the normal ring tone for an incoming call on the radio interfce is routed to the earpiece if set so

3.) Call Recordging with Vito Audionotes does not work :-( but this was a hoped-for side-effect only anyway.

So to use it you have to copy the files out of the CAB, rename them to their real names and create .lnk files for the calls to the interactive part. Do not expect to see any resident program - it works nevertheless.

Another side-effect: While active, you can activate "Speakerphone" also when the device is idle. Long-Pushing the Green button will make the symbol appear (and possibly also let the ring happen normally - have not checked) in the top symbol bar. Long-push again will make it disappear.

Proposal for a smartphone cab:
- create .lnk files for a possible interactive calls
- drop the installation of the PPC honmescreen plugin

Thanks for this great freeware!

I'm also a creator of WinMo apps (www.saman-cz.com), so I know that recreating cab is just a piece of cake.
But OK. To modify cabinet get WinCE Cab Manager (trial is good enough), open cab, go menu Cabinet->Properties, Operating System tab, set minimum version to 5.0 and maximum to 9.9, hit Ok, then File->Save

Just another result from my tests:
After restarting phone I tried rerouting once more and the microphone worked well. Weird but nice.

Icon colors do not change

Postby kuwait » Thu Apr 02, 2009 3:55 pm

Program works well. Parameter mode works also well.
But when use the program with parameters the colour of the icon on the top bar does not change.
Meantime when use the buttons of the interface on the top bar the colour of the icon changes.
Is bis a bug or just not well planet operation algorithm?

Because of the broken indication, parameter mode is almost useless.
Admin, may you correct it?

The latest .cab installed perfectly on my Samsung Omnia i910 but lacks control over the audio output. If you click on the small taskbar symbol you can select a mode and the symbol will change accordingly, however when I open skype and place a call, it is on speakerphone still. Is there any way to fix this?

Hi krab, good to see you here again.
This tool routes the audio to the earpiece speaker or to the back speaker. It is not for bluetooth headsets.

If you need to route the audio to bluetooth headsets, then you can see this.

I've been trying out AudioRoute on my CDMA HTC Touch, trying to use Skype. From my poking around trying different things, there is only one situation where I get audio through the earpiece and a working microphone. I have to start the call with the back speaker, then switch to earpiece. It seems after that I can switch back and forth at will without losing the microphone.

I'm guessing this has to do with which device skype grabs for the mircrophone at the begining of the call. Once it's grabbed, it doesn't change. The Touch uses the same microphone for both regular and speakerphone calling, which is where I think the problem is. Switching to the earpiece changes the mircrophone device to something that's not there, so Skype is looking in the wrong place for it.

Is it possible to control whether the microphone redirects or not? If it is, an option in the settings would be useful for those of us with this problem.

HTC Tytn:
- Audio can not be routed to earphone from the moment Skype starts ringing till the end of the call. Audio can be routed to earphone only before Skype receives a call.
+ Sound can be switched to earphone when Skype is idle. If a call is received when audio has already been routed to earphone then audio can be toggled to speakerphone and back to earphone during the call.
- While in Earphone mode and switch to Speakerphone the icon correctly changes from "E" to "S" but after that when you toggle between the modes the icon stays "S" regardless of the mode. It can be a problem when you think you are in Speakerphone mode but actually the sound is routed to Earphone. You may not hear your cell ringing in Earphone and miss important calls.
So currently AudioRoute is savior when I want to make an outgoing call but not yet useful when receiving calls on Tytn.

Hi,

Thanks, first of all, for this very useful utility. I use it on my Asus P535 running WM 6 and works seamlessly - without it received sound is output to the back speaker during SIP calls.

I would also like to add a user comment: I use WM with other software and plug-ins too, and I have interactive icons almost fully occupying the taskbar. AudioRoute icon seems to be made to sit on a foreward layer, so it covers what was supposed to be there without it. Among my suggestions there are user-positioned icon, plain Today plug-in or total background (hidden) operation, of course still with some possiblity to access the mode setting. I believe this would get the product even more appreciated by all users in similar situation to mine

Thanks for the good work and your attention.

Hello Öncel,

Thanks for your good suggestions.

I do have plans to prepare a new version, for the moment is just a matter of getting some time for it. I also need to implement several features pointed by tucahara on the xda-devs forum.

Hi Radhoo,

I understand the time constraints... I took a look at tucahara's suggestions, and yes, he's got good ideas. For instance this switching control mechanism regarding the application running in the foreground window would be great. It would prevent one issue (should I call it a bug?) that you might already be aware of: When I make or receive a call, switching works fine, however when I reject an incoming call, the sound is not directed back to the external speaker, but remains at the earpiece. Just for your information.

By the way, is AudioRoute open source? I have never developed for WM, but I could still offer free help if so :)

Cheers!

Hi, Olipro here.

I did try registering but it never gave me a confirmation code, isn't that great?

anyway... I was going to say.

would the developers be interested in either opensourcing this lovely little app, or alternatively, would they be interested in bunging in some code I cooked up.

I made some power-saving functions that turn off the screen and generally lower power consumption (whilst keeping the wireless ON) which is of course great when you're calling someone on Skype as you enjoy even longer battery life.

it might be difficult to put this as open source since it relays on DynRIL.

well, you don't need to open up the DynRIL source code, I know how to call RIL functions directly anyway.

In the meantime, if you meant that you didn't want to open up the app itself, let me give you this little snippet of code - it sticks the device in unattended mode and switches the screen off

HANDLE Wlan = NULL, blht = NULL;
HDC gdc = ::GetDC(NULL);
if(!(Wlan = SetPowerRequirement(L"BCMSDDHD1:", D0, POWER_NAME | POWER_FORCE, NULL, 0)))
MessageBoxW(0, L"failed", L"Failed", 0);
if(!(blht = SetPowerRequirement(L"BKL1:", D4, POWER_NAME | POWER_FORCE, NULL, 0)))
MessageBoxW(0, L"failed2", L"Failed2", 0);
PowerPolicyNotify(PPN_UNATTENDEDMODE, true);
//PowerPolicyNotify(PPN_POWERBUTTONPRESSED, 0);
VIDEO_POWER_MANAGEMENT vpm;
vpm.Length = sizeof(VIDEO_POWER_MANAGEMENT);
vpm.DPMSVersion = 0x0001;
vpm.PowerState = VideoPowerOff;
ExtEscape(gdc, SETPOWERMANAGEMENT, vpm.Length, (LPCSTR)&vpm, 0, NULL);

do bear in mind that "BKL1:" is the backlight (and should be the same across most devices) - however, "BCMSDDHD1:" is the WiFi for a Rhodium and it's quite unlikely all devices have the same device name for their WiFi, so that does need to be made a bit more dynamic... not that I'm intending to patronise you, I'm sure you know how to search the MSDN :)

If you can't be bothered to do this crap yourself - add a button to the little menu on audio switcher and have it execute a function in an external DLL and I'll whip something up :)

First of all, thank you very much for the excellent piece of software! The program runs smoothly on my HTC Diamond 2, the audio is rerouted from the rear dynamic to the headpiece and back without no problem.
I just want to mention that there is small glitch with the program's activation icon. On my WVGA screen it's placed right on top of Windows Start button which is a bit uncomfortable. I believe the reason is the screen resolution. I would like to know whether there's some workaround for this minor issue.
Thanks!

You can adjust icon position.
Click on the audioroute icon, you will see a drop down, in the dropdown you can see a slider, move the slider to the right to position it correctly

Uhm, are you guys even working on this anymore? It hasn't been updated in forever, and there are lots of problems with it working on a number of different phone models.

I think a list of current issues would speed up the development of an update. Could you share some of your ideas?

I installed AudioRoute on my HTC Diamond2 and now I can have VOIP audio on earpiece. Unfortunately, the volume is quite low.

Googling around I found that this VOIP low volume problem is quite common but it seems no one found a solution.

Can you offer some advice?

I noticed that DynRIL library has a SetSpkVolume function. Could it be used to increase volume during VOIP calls?
